SCORPION KING

	It was late December and I was exploring the desert east of Laughlin Nevada and working on "View From The Top" (that strangely STILL hasn't been released). I was surprised when my cell phone rang as I crested a mountain range using an un mapped dirt road. I was out in the middle of no where and there had been no coverage all morning. I stopped in the cellular sweet spot and answered. The call was about Scorpion King. I knew it sounded interesting, and was amazed when I saw the fax (200 pages!!!) waiting for me at the hotel in Laughlin. It was the beginning of a fantastic experience/adventure. Within two weeks I had started the show and would remain working on it for the next 11 months.
Cassandra's Bath Tub Room All fabric on this set was cold water hand dyed, flame proof treated and installed by the textile artists at Studio-Props.
During this scene, The Rock crashes in through the draped ceiling we supplied and made breakaway.

Memnon's Throne Room We provided the drapes and giant fabric ceiling that the Rock swings in on just like the Crimson Pirate.

The Throne Room Exit. This wall burns in the film. We made many copies and versions of the banners, drapes and doorway tapestries.
Awnings that we created from fire proof flame cloth are burning in the background here. They burn wonderfully when the special effects people pump propane through them, yet go out instantly when "CUT" is called.
We upholstered all of these stools, and created runners for the tables.

The Army camp from the other end as they prepared to film. We created over 30,000 square feet of tents for this set alone.
All tents other than the wizard's tent are created from burlap and painted with the patterns. We used burlap to allow the wind and rain to pass right through.
Here is an interesting shot from inside one of the large burlap tents we created. One of these tents was built for a roof walking stunt.
Many of these tents were decorated inside and out.
The Wizard's Tent Exterior This tent was created from heavy canvas and custom painted.
There is a replaceable panel so they could have multiple takes of a knife stunt. It was also made to be walked on.
The Wizard's Tent Interior. We made the tent roof with replaceable panels to allow The Rock to cut through it multiple times.
This set is FULL of fabrics and fabric effects.
This is a banner that we did a batik resist on to create the dyed pattern.
All flame proofed and cold water hand dyed to custom colors.

The Harem. Another large fabric heavy set.
The Harem Perimeter Hall. We created all of the cushions as well as custom dyed and flame proofed all of the material.
We even aged and flame proofed all of the rugs.
The Walls of Gomorrah Or at least as much of it as they actually built.

Making a plan for the Bandit Hideout.
Here is a view from high up on the canyon wall looking down on the Bandit Hideout set. See the cave? This was the area used as the bat cave in the 60s TV show Batman.
